It was a frigid night by many standards. The temperature high for the day barely tipped above zero degrees fahrenheit. Perhaps a taste of winters to come in Central Asia.
Though, on this night, we (along with Joanna's parents) found ourselves in Boulder, Colorado and low temperatures could not keep us from experiencing one of Boulder's gems, an invitation to the beauty and culture of Central Asia: the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse.

The teahouse came as a gift from Boulder's sister city in Central Asia. Each piece of its extravagant ceiling, wooden columns, and detailed wall panels were hand-carved or painted.

The surroundings ushered in the rich beauty of the culture, and Tim and I utilized our newly-acquired alphabet skills to read Central Asian words that were inscribed on the walls and on cultural articles on display. "Teahouse" is much too modest a word to describe the establishment as its menu boasts a myriad of dishes from around the world. Though the tea menu holds a variety that exceeds 100!
We ordered dishes with Central Asian origins and flair. Though we do not expect food to be prepared to such Western standards when we are actually living there, the food at the teahouse was exquisite! After enjoying our comforting cups of hot tea, we roamed through the restaurant, taking in each detail. We decided that next time, we are definitely requesting this table, where everyone sits on cushions around a low table.
Our time here perked excitement in our hearts for the day we will move to Central Asia.
